After getting off the plane in Iquitos, Peru, we took a quick bus ride through the city to the Explorama Headquarters which was located along the Amazon River. The workers loaded the awaiting boat with all of our suitcases and we climbed aboard for a ride to our first lodge. The ride was very relaxing and enjoyable. The river was at Low Tide and there were a lot of logs and debris in the River because they had just had a rain storm.
All the traveling we did, except for one quick shortcut we took on the way to our second lodge, was done by boat. We used the closed boats for traveling from lodge to lodge because we had our luggage with us. But when we went on day trips to the villages or anywhere else, we usually went by open boat.
The map shows Iquitos (1), then our first lodge Ceiba Tops (2) where we stayed for two nights. From there we headed back towards Iquitos, to the Timicurillo - Mazan Road where we got out of the boats and road by Motorcar to reach the Napo River on the other side. We got back into new boats and headed to our second lodge ExploNapo (5). We stayed there for qutie a few days and visited villages surrounding the lodge. When it was time to move on, we went up the Napo River till it met with the Amazon River and headed back down the River to Explorama Lodge to finish our trip. From there we headed back to Iquitos to stay for a couple of days.
Each lodge was unique in it's own way, and each was very special. There will be more details about each of them later but we wanted to give you a map to show you where exactly we stayed and traveled when we were in Peru.
